Is it Possible to Run IIS 7 on XP Pro - or Must I have Vista?

Can IIS 7 be installed on Windows XP Pro? Or must I have Vista in order to
run/develop with IIS 7?

Thanks.

Hello,

You cannot install IIS7 on Windows XP, you need Windows Vista (or Windows
Server 2008).

Are there any plans to eventually make IIS7 available for XP Pro?

why? xp is a dying system, soon all will be vista or whatever comes after.
xp has it's own version of iis, use that if you must.

Please, let's not not turn this into a "what's wrong with Vista" or "what's
wrong with XP" debate.

I simply want to know if there are any plans to make IIS 7 available on XP
Pro.

I need features of IIS 7 not available in any prior version of IIS and
prefer to develop on XP Pro.

all of the prior versions of iis were tied to the operating system and never
have been available separately that i know of. i would highly doubt that
they would change that now, so do like the rest of us who are biting the
bullet and setting up vista development systems... drink the coolaid, you'll
like it..........

FYI: Microsoft Product Plans are never disclosed in non-official
channels such as newsgroups. So, what you want to know will never be
answered officially.

Without going into the technical and legal details, I will just say
that you must use the OS(es) that come with IIS7 to develop for/with
it.

Hint: notice that each Windows OS has exactly one version of IIS, and
there are no stand-alone IIS installation packages.

In that case Server 2008 might become my development system until the
replacement for Windows ME2 - I mean Vista - becomes available :-)

Hi David,

Am I the first person to ask this question?

Just curious...

Re: Is it Possible to Run IIS 7 on XP Pro - or Must I have Vista?

No, you are not the first person to ask this question.

That said, IIS 7.0 relies on a bunch of architectural stuff included in the
operating system, that isn't available currently on Windows XP, and will not
be backported to Windows XP (well, Microsoft has no stated intention of
backporting).

Cheers
Ken

When I was an MVP I know that the MS boys were talking about distributing
IIS 7. However, they did not. This is a pity of course, because upgrading to
Windows 2008 might be a much bigger step than keeping Windows 2003 and
upgrading IIS if it is purely about feature support that IIS offers.
