Keep script alive when set_time_limit( 0 ); cannot be used?

Hi,

In safe mode,
(http://www.php.net/manual/en/features.safe-mode.php#ini.saf e-mode),
set_time_limit(...) cannot be used.

Is there a simple way around this problem?
