WPF Project created in Visual Studio 2008 Team Suite Cannot open in Microsoft Expression Blend
WPF Project created in Visual Studio 2008 Team Suite Cannot open in Microsoft Expression Blend
am 05.12.2007 07:29:27 von Mohamed Mansour
Hello,
Last week I downloaded Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 Team Suite edition from
MSDN Subscriptions, and I could create working WPF Applications.
Today, I am fooling around with WPF again "boring night :p" and I wanted to
try out Microsoft Expression Blend. I said open Project, selected the WPF
Project which I created in VS2008 and I get the following error:
"File format version is not recognized. MSBuild can only read solution files
between versions 7.0 and 9.0, inclusive."
Any idea what is wrong, I tried searching on it on search engines, and only
2 irrelevant hits were found.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks

Probably version sync. The VS final bits were released this month, while the
Expression Blend bits were quite some time ago. The CTP for Expression Blend
focuses on the 2.0 bits, at least for Silverlight, so it could well be out
of sync. It will take a bit of time for the released bits to get back into
sync. Part of the problem with moving targets.

Hi Gregory,
So should I wait till a Windows Update? Cause I downloaded both of them from
MSDN Subscriptions, there are no more updates. So there is no solution at
this time? Is it a known issue?

Hi Mohamed,
Could you please check the version number of Blend? You can find the
version number in its About dialog.

Hi Walter,
I downloaded Blend right after I downloaded Visual Studio 2008, and here is
the version of Blend:
Microsoft Expression Blend Version 1.0.1083.0

Hi Mohamed,
Please try the BlendConfigurator tool in following page to make Blend work
with Orcas project:
#Expression Blend and Design : Working with Visual Studio Code Name "Orcas"
and Expression Blend
http://blogs.msdn.com/expression/archive/2007/05/29/working- with-visual-stud

Hi Walter,
Thanks for the reply, but I ran the tool and the following happened:
http://img356.imageshack.us/img356/4521/orcasblendnullqx9.jp g
It seems that tool is only for the beta version of Microsoft Visual Studio
2008, not the MSDN version.
I guess it is okay for now, I will not use blend 1.0 until blend 2.0 comes
out
unless there is a solution for the compatibility between VS2008 and BLEND1.0

Hi Mohamed,
Sorry for not testing the tool first on VS2008 RTM. I'm using Blend 2
Preview edition and don't have 1.0 at hand to test it. Anyway, thanks for
your feedback.
I'm sure the Blend 2 will be included in MSDN subscriber downloads when
it's released.

Hi Andrej,
Excellent, that worked 100% :) Strange that it didn't ask me to update when
I started Expression Web, usually Microsoft Products update in Windows
Update window.
Once again, Thanks!
