Access 2000

Access 2000

am 19.12.2007 17:17:52 von geoffers

Hi,

Please excuse the basic question, but I am new to access.

I have just changed a machine form NT4 to win2000 and moved an Access
2000 database as well.
When on NT4 when the database was open, if someone else on the network
tried to open it it would only open as read only and would show the
message to the second person who tried to open it.
Since the change to Win2000 no such message appears until a record is
saved then it says that you do not have exclusive access to the
database.
Is there a way i can change this on Win2000 and access2000 to act more
like the NT4 situation?

thanks

You can force exclusive access by adding:

" /excl"

to your shortcut's target field (without the quotes).

Thanks for that Stuart, where do I add that to?

Sorry for the delay replying. I lost the use of the net for most of today
due to engineers upgrading part of my local exchange.

Right-click on the shortcut you use to launch the application. Add it to the
end of the line labelled 'Target'.

Hi Stuart,
I tried that and it didn't work?
Is there anything else I can try?
Thanks Geoff

Well it certainly ought to have worked. The excl command-line switch has
been included in every Access version from 2.0 onwards. Make sure you're
entering it correctly. From the help file:

1.. Open the folder where Microsoft Access is installed (located by
default in C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office11).
2.. Right-click the Microsoft Access program icon, and then click Create
Shortcut.
3.. Right-click the shortcut icon just created, click Properties, and then
click the Shortcut tab.
4.. Click to the right of the Microsoft Access startup command in the
Target box, and then type the desired command-line options.
For example, the following command line starts Microsoft Access and opens
the Northwind sample database for exclusive access.

"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office11\MSAccess.exe" "C:\Program
Files\Microsoft Office\Office11\Samples\Northwind.mdb" /excl
