Web Site - Web 2.0 ?
am 20.12.2007 09:56:30 von Peter
Hi,
There is a Web Server in our site.
However, a consultant who is working on a project that make use of SQL
Server 2005 and ASP.NET says that he needs another server as the current one
is not running Web 2.0 and doesn't suit his need.
We would like to seek your advice that how to determine whether it is Web
2.0 or not AND what effort is required for the change to Web 2.0 ?
Thanks
Peter

I'm not sure what he means by "Web 2.0". That is buzzy catch-phrase that is
utterly meaningless. However, if it is the Microsoft .NET Framework v2.0 that
he needs, then that should not be an issue as long as the web server is
running IIS5 or 6 on Windows Server 2000 or 2003. All you should have to do
to make it compatible is to install the .NET Framework 2.0 on that web server
and viola!
If this is not the case, then I would personally hire a consultant that
doesn't use the phrase, "it's not running web 2.0".
Thanks,
Chad

If he truly said that he has no idea what the meaning of Web 2.0 is. "Web
2.0" uses http, which IIS knows all about. Maybe he uses server-side
technology that cannot be installed on IIS to implement his Web 2.0 web
site?
This page gives some information about Web 2.0 which can be good to read:

Dear Kristofer and Chad,
Many thanks for your advice. From your mail, I cannot see any reason why he
insists on getting a new server. Most likely, he doesn't want to touch
those stuff on the existing server.
Thanks
