Pop up window when Explorer starts
Pop up window when Explorer starts
am 20.12.2007 23:31:02 von davem
I am running SBS2003 and recently installed SQL 2005. I could then no longer
access the "companyweb" site. I removed SQL and then got the error message
403.2. when trying to access "companyweb" After altering the "Home Directory"
in "Web Sites" properties I found that when I clicked on Internet Explorer I
get a pop up window titled
"File Download - Security Warning"
The first line is "Do you want to save this file?"
Second line "Name: companyweb.
Third line: "Unknown File Type, 2.13 MB". Fourth line "companyweb"
Fifth line: Save and cancel options.
I think one of the boxes I selected in the "Home Directory" in "Web Sites"
was either "Read, Write, Directory Browsing, Log visit or Index this
resource". I have deselected all the boxes but the problem is still there.
I would be grateful for any ideas

If you don't have "Read" checked and the URL is handled by the IIS
Static File Handler, you will get 403.2.
Can you please provide:
1. The exact URL that you cannot access
2. If it is for the default document (i.e. URL looks like http://companyweb
or http://companyweb/ ), then please lookup the Default Document list
for the companyweb website

Thanks for the reply David. I have checked the read boxes in the sites. When
start explorer with companyweb as the default site I get the error message
box described earlier. If I use https://servername I get the Welcome to
Windows Small Business Server 2003 screen. If I select "Network Configuration
Wizard" this works fine. If I select "My Company's Internal Website" I get
the error window again.
I'm not sure what you mean by "then please lookup the Default Document list
for the companyweb website". I have looked in "documents" under "companyweb
properties". There are Default.htm, Default.asp, index.htm, Default.aspx.
I have also noticed in event viewer the error message:
"#50070:Unable to connect to the database STS_Config on
"Servername\Sharepoint. Check the database connection information and make
sure that the database is still running.
Thanks again for your help

Please give the exact URL that you clicked on to get the error window.
Right now it sounds like that URL's handler is misconfigured such that
it's now downloading the file instead of executing it on the server.
Thus, it is important to know which URL and its file extension so that
you can look up the handler mapping for that extension and possibly
fix it.

Re: Pop up window when Explorer starts

If I start my browser with "http://companyweb" set as the default in Internet
Explorer I get the pop up message. If I start the browser with
"http://servername" the browser opens. If I then type in "http://companyweb"
I get "Cannot connect to the configuration databas. For tips on
troubleshooting this error, search for article 823287 in the Microsoft
Knowledge Base at http://support.microsoft.com. Oddly enough this message
started after I installed SQL. As I could not get rid of it I removed SQL
hoping that would solve the problem.
