best software package for this-vs2005 standard edition?
best software package for this-vs2005 standard edition?
am 21.12.2007 21:28:02 von Paul
I was just wondering if anyone knows if vs2005 standard edition will work for
this. I would like to build some windows applications that will have Crystal
reports as an output and interface with SQL express. I need low cost
software as am on a budget and noticed that vs2005 standard edition is only
$226.00. Also I would need to build an MSI (install file) with this that
would include the SQL express database (I think it is free), the windows
application as well as a touchscreen driver.
Thanks.

You'll need Visual Studio 2005 Professional if you want Crystal Reports
included. If you already have Crystal Reports then you can use Visual Studio
2005 Express for the rest and use WiX [1] to create an installation.
Standard is the lowest Visual Studio 2005 edition that has setup/deployment
projects.

2005 Do you know if microsoft licensing allows vs professional to be
installed on two different machines if these machines are only used by one
person as I have professional at my work location and wondering if it is ok
to install on my home computer?
thanks.

The EULA for Team Edition is "per user". I'd have to track down the EULA for
Professional; but I would guess it's the same.

Here is the applicable section of the EULA for VS 2005 Professional:
1. OVERVIEW.
a. Software. The software includes development tools, software programs and
documentation.
b. License Model. The software is licensed on a per user basis.
2. INSTALLATION AND USE RIGHTS.
a. General. One user may install and use copies of the software to design,
develop, test and demonstrate your
programs. Testing does not include staging on a server in a production
environment, such as loading content prior
to production use.
b. Included Microsoft Programs. These license terms apply to all Microsoft
programs included with the software.
If the license terms with any of those programs give you other rights that
do not expressly conflict with these
license terms, you also have those rights.
c. Third Party Programs. The software contains third party programs. The
license terms with those programs
apply to your use of them.
Note 2a. "...may install and use copie*s*..."
