Unusual problem with Access 2003 and memory stick

Hi,
I'm not 100% sure that this is an Access problem. A friend of mine has
an Access 2003 database. Occasionally he brings a copy to me so that I
can import some of his data into my Access 2003 database. For years he
has done this with no problems by bringing his copy on a CD.

However, last week he put his database onto a memory stick and brought
it to me. When I try to open the database, I get the error "The Visual
Basic for Applications project in the database is corrupt".

If I click ok, the main form seems to open ok, but I can do nothing
with it. Even if I go to the database window and try to open a table,
it crashes Access with no error.

He has tried this on two memory sticks now, and gets the same error.
He has also tried it with all 4 USB ports on his p/c. His memory stick
is Integral USB 2.0 1GB. His p/c is probably about 5 years old.

Can anybody suggest what might be happening here?

If it's the same version and there are no linked tables that need
refreshing after the upload then it may indeed be a corrupt database.
You could try splitting linking the back end to a new front end and
copying across the forms into the new file? Or run a KB search on it,
I think it's a common one.

Are you running A2003? Is this an MDE or MDB? Is he on SP3 and you are on SP2 or
different?

There is an interesting problem in A2007 where A2007 with no SP can't execute an MDE
created in A2007 SP1.

We both use Access 2003, and it is a mdb. I'm not sure what service
pack he is on. I'll try to find out later. The odd thing is that we
have been operating in this way for a few years, with no problems.
He's not very technical, and assures me that nothing has changed on
his p/c recently. I've installed nothing on mine for a few months.

Could it be a problem with compatability between his memory stick and
P/C? His p/c is about 5 years old.

I too have had problems with opening ms access databases on a memory
stick. The database becomes corrupt unless I copy it to my hard drive
prior to opening it. This doesn't happen every time, but enough times to
get aggravating. I've just resigned myself to not attempting to run a
database while it is on a memory stick.

Were the memory sticks properly ejected before removal from the PC?
If not, that would explain the corruption.
