Viewing linked tables in split database

I have a split Access 97 database, in the back end I have two linked tables,
one is an .xls file the other is a .csv file, the are supplying data which
changes several times a day. My problem is that I cannot see these tables in
the front end. Apart from running maketable queries in the backend in order
to make them into tables that the front end will see. I don't have a
solution. I do not want to link them to the front end as there are about 10
PCs involved. Any ideas anyone?

If they are linked to the backed, how is the data being made available to
the front-end applications?
