Windows Update Standalone Installer FAILS in Windows Server 2008
am 07.01.2008 08:09:01 von Thiagu
Hi,
I was not able to successfully run the Update Standalone Installer
'Windows6.0-KB917607-x86.msu' which I downloaded from the download center of
MSDN (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/917607). It is giving me a message "The
update does not apply to your system".
This install update is proposed by MSDN to use WinHlp32.EXE in Vista and
Windows Server 2008, to launch .hlp help files of applications.
Could some one helps me to find out why this install update is not working
in W2k8?
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Thiagu
Note: OS version - Windows Server® 2008 Enterprise [Evaluation copy, Build
6001]

Hi,
This is a group for IIS, not for general hotfix issues. I would suggest that
you call Microsoft PSS for support with a hotfix issue, and hotfixes are
supported by PSS, and the call should be free to you.
That said, the KB article mentioned indicates support (at the moment) for
Vista only. My guess is that the update checks the OS version, and Windows
Server 2008 (which hasn't been released yet) isn't in it's list of supported
OSes.
You should try right-clicking on the update and attempting to run it in
compat mode. Otherwise, call PSS for support with Microsoft hotfix issues.
Cheers
Ken
