Is there a way to let users select more than one item from a dropdown
list?

No, only checkboxes offer multiple selections.

I didn't have much time to test this, but in FMP 9 (and I believe
earlier), you can select the first item in the usual way, then put your
cursor in the field ( I guessing you would want the user to put a space
after the first item) then hit the Escape key the drop down will drop
down and you can select the second (or more) item.

Not for Pop-up List formatted fields. Technically there is a way to
choose multiple values in fields formatted as Pop-up Menus or Radio
Buttons, BUT it's really a non-standard "fault" in FileMaker and should
not be used. For multiple values you should use either Checkboxes or
have multiple fields.

That's not quite true. If you teach your users to do a shift-click if they
want to select multiple items, that will add the newly selected item to
the field value. That's on a Mac of course; presumably on Windows there
is a similar provision. It works with standard dropdown lists, no special
setting is required.

It doesn't work with Pop-up Lists (at least not in my version of
FileMaker), only Pop-up Menu and Radio Button formmatted fields.

*BUT*
It is a non-standard fault, so you shouldn't be teaching users to use
this method - they won't be able to use it anywhere else.

On Windows, you can hold CTRL and select multiple values from a
drop-down list, then hit Enter to confirm your selections.
I agree with Harry though. If you require multiple values in a single
field, there are more preferred methods.
