Installing old version with new

Installing old version with new

I am helping a distant friend with a database running under FileMaker
6, and I now have 8.5.

To make changes for them using my computer, I want the revised
database work in their computer with ver. 6.

I have tossed-out my version 6 CD, but have found my old version 5 CD.
Can I install it alongside version 8.5 in order to let me fix their db
in a FP5 format? If not, is their another way to accomplish this?

We are both running under XP.

I use fmp 5 and 6 alongside fmp 8.5 and fmp 9 on my mac. No problem.
I think you can use fmp 5 on the 6 databse, because it is same format.

You can, but obviously FileMaker 5 will be missing some of the
abilities of FileMaker 6.

It really depends on what you mean by "helping". If you're developing a
database for the other person to use, then there's no problem, but if
your trying to collaborate in the development where you both do some
bits, then you may have a few hiccups because of the missing newer
abilities the other person might use.

Hopefully helping harassed humans happily handle handiwork hardships ;o)
