IIS crashing

IIS 5 - we have been having a problem with this server since July, and I
am here to get advise on what to do.

I see a lot of event id 7031, Service Control Manager, WWW, IIS and FTP
stopped unexpectedly and restarts in about a minute. This has happened
many, many times. Occassionally, IIS cannot restart correctly, and
tonight, I got this message:

Server Configuration Error
The server has encountered a configuration error attempting to process
your request. The configuration parameter MD_CUSTOM_ERROR (6008) has an
invalid value. Please contact the server administrator for assistance.

Looking at the logs, I also saw New_Application Failed on lines 339.
343, 353, 356, 1361, 1369, 1388, 1394. On line 1608 I got
New_Session_Failed and all status errors past that point were 500 with
the same message.

Sometimes, restarting WWW from services will fix everything, but
tonight, I had to reboot the server.

Any ideas? I'm beginning to pull out my hair.
