Multiple IPs, One NIC - Recommended or Not?
am 23.01.2008 23:13:01 von CT
I know this question has been out there, but I have some die hards here that
are worried that multiple IPs on one NIC,for the purpose of multiple SSL
connections may cause "packet confusion", and perhaps dropped or denied
packets through the firewall. They are also worried about the same issue
when it comes to having multiple NICs. If we do neither, then the only
options are to either open firewall ports or to have one SSL per server.
Can somebody PLEASE help me with "proof", determining the best route to go
(esp. on win2k3 server) so I can get these guys at ease?
Thanks,
CT

Hi CT,
I have an article discussing the "IIS part" of this topic.
http://www.gafvert.info/iis/article/host_headers_vs_ip.htm
I would however recommend you to discuss this topic in the networking
newsgroup as well, so they can give their opinion on having multiple IP
addresser and/or mutliple NICs. Because the packet handling is more of a
networking issue and not IIS.
The networking newsgroup is:
