Problems sending to MXLOGIC mail servers
am 28.01.2008 14:36:50 von icesoft
Just last week, we started having problems sending mail to companies
who have their mail hosted by mxlogic.com.
What I find in my log is this:
Jan 24 08:38:04 vpn sendmail[22886]: m0ODb2Cu022828:
to=, ctladdr= (505/505),
delay=00:00:59, xdelay=00:
00:52, mailer=esmtp, pri=124138,
relay=hylant.com.inbound15.mxlogicmx.net. [208.65.144.12], dsn=4.0.0,
stat=Deferred: Name server: hylant.com.inbound15.mxlogicm
x.net.: host name lookup failure
I'm also getting these errors while sending to a couple other
companies that use mxlogic mail servers.
I'm about ready to email them about it, but want to make sure it's not
something on my end first.
Thanks,
Benjamin Jennings

Push the queued message (as root) in verbose mode with DNS tracking
turned on.

Ahh Ha...
I finally saw what it was doing, we have 7 DNS servers listed in our
/etc/resolv.conf file, and sendmail would only hit the top three
(which
intrestingly enough quit responding to some requests). I've
reordered the
resolv.conf file and the problem has gone away.
Thanks,

[Thank you for "problem fix" report for would be future readers]
AFAIK The limit is not built in into sendmail but into library it uses.
[ based on reading "man resolv.conf" on my home comp ]
Do you use local (on the same host) "caching only" DNS server?
[ AFAIK bind has no such limit on "forwarders" ]
It would make sense to use such server as the first option with two
remaining used for backups.
