Can Anyone Duplicate This A2007 Problem
Can Anyone Duplicate This A2007 Problem

I am putting together an A2007 database using Windows Vista. I
noticed that when I roll my mouse cursor onto and off a command button
the command button gives a flicker. To ensure that the problem was
not related to this particular database I have done the following:
Created a new A2007 database with one plain form i.e no background
colors etc. Made the form header and footer visible. Placed 3
command buttons on the form, one in the header, one in the detail
section and one in the footer. I see the flicker problem when running
the mouse cursor over the command buttons in the header and footer but
there is no flicker on the button in the detail section.
I tried the same database on another machine running Vista and saw the
same problem. I then rebooted my main machine (the original test
machine which is dual boot) into XP and found that there was no
problem. This tells me that the problem is not chipset or graphics
card related.
I also tried the database on my XP laptop. Same thing as on the other
XP machine - no problem. It would appear that the problem only shows
itself when using Vista.
Can anyone replicate this problem under Vista to confirm that it is a
bug?

Wayne, I don't see a repeated flicker problem.
With the color scheme I have set up in Vista, the button face goes blue as I
pass the mouse over, it but it doesn't flicker, and neither do any of the
other controls on the form. The behavior is the same whether the command
button is in the Detail section or Form Header or Footer.
(If it makes any difference, I have Aero turned off because the nVidia video
drivers have problems. IME, driver issues are the biggest turn-off for
Vista.)

Thanks for the reply Allen. I also have Aero turned off. I suspected
the video drivers as well (nvidia in my case also) but booting the
same machine into XP and then not seeing the problem seemed to
eliminate this. (Assuming Vista and XP are using the same driver and
this may not be the case.) You say you see no repeated flicker. The
flicker I am seeing occurs once when the cursor is rolled on to the
button and then again when it is rolled off and occurs when the tip of
the cursor touches the border of the command button. No flicker
occurs if the cursor is moved around on the button itself. It's no
big deal but it does look tacky. I really wish that I wasn't so
pedantic!

Thanks Lyle. Interesting. If I turn Aero on the problem goes away.
Can you retest with Aero off?

I turned Aero off.
The flicker is there as you described.
It's very fast and probably I would not have noticed it had I not been
looking for it. As it was, I had to test it several times and compare
the result of running the cursor over the command button in the detail
section with that of the running the cursor over the command buttons
in either the header or footer.
But the flicker is definitely there.

Sounds like you aren't seeing it quite as badly as I am. I'm using an
Nvidia GeForce 7600 GS graphics card. It would be interesting to know
if others who are using something other than Nvidia are seeing the
problem.
This is the second problem that I've had under Vista that only
manifests with Aero turned off. The other, which Microsoft has
acknowledged as a bug, relates to flicker induced by their
Intellipoint software. It shows itself in lists eg. Outlook and Excel
and also in the Access relationships window. There's no problem with
Aero turned on.
