What is visual web developer 2008? Is this used to construct websites as is
Expression?

Thanks in advance.

Visual Web Developer 2008 is a free, limited, subset of Visual Studio 2008.
In general terms, VWD 2008 allows you to build web sites from more of a
developer's perspective, while Expression has more of a designer's
perspective. Why not try it out? No charge :-)

Thanks. I am familiar with visual studio as I develop some software
applications. as far as web goes, I am familiar with Front page 2000, which
I have been using, but need to get away from because of the myriad of
security issues with Front page. I was unsure if I should purchase
Expression, or try to learn to use visual web developer, which seems to be
more difficult.

Expression Web (xWeb) is HTML page layout and has weak support for the .NET
Framework. Visual Web Developer has support for the .NET Framework but
should be renamed to Visual Studio Jr. which would then be self-explanatory.

I recommend using xWeb because it shares code with Visual Studio 2008
meaning the HTML Designer and CSS functionality is now the same in both
programs, notably via the UI, toolbars and so on. I would think some
consolidation is in order and believe Visual Web Developer may be
discontinued or renamed or perhaps at some later date also share the same
HTML designer. Who knows?
