On my home LAN (not a domain), I run Windows XP Pro with IIS and Front Page
extensions installed. (Assume IP address 192.168.1.114). Front Page is also
installed on this PC. I can create new webs, or add existing webs with no
userid or password required.

I also run VISTA on a second PC. (Assume IP address 192.168.1.113). Front
Page is installed on this machine as well. When I try to create or edit a
new web on 192.168.1.114 I am prompted for a userid/password. I cannot
figure out what to use. I would like to be able to control userid/password.

Any information would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Marvin

IIS uses the Security Accounts Manager that's built into Windows XP for user
accounts. This means that it checks the permissions on the NTFS file system
to determine who has what rights to do what. Essentially, that let's you
create users in the windows control panel and give them rights through FP to
be admins for a web. Now, you may also need to enable other features in
Windows XP such as allowing users to logon remotely as normally, in a LAN
setting, you don't want other users to logon to your computer from a remote
location by default. You can turn this on under the Systems applet in the
control panel if I remember correctly.

Hope this helps,

Are you running IE7 on the Vista PC? Try this:

I don't believe IIS under Windows XP Pro allows remote editing, just viewing of a root web via a
browser

Thomas-

I was previously able to author to XP Pro from another PC. I don't know if
VISTA might be the issue.

Thanks.
