Does anyone know how to submit a patch to CPAN?

Does anyone know how to submit a patch to CPAN?

am 30.12.2008 18:28:40 von Curtis Leach

Hi,

I needed to use Net-FTPSSL for a project & had to enhance it a bit &
debug existing functionality to make it usable. So I thought I'd try to
get these fixes posted to CPAN as v0.05 so that no one else would have
to re-invent the wheel again. So can anyone give me any pointers on how
to do this?

I probably fixed about two-thirds of the known bugs since they mostly
had a common root of problems with response(). Sorry to say I didn't try
to fix Implicit Connections at this time. The test scripts are also
much improved.

These changes have been tested with Perl v5.8.8 on both Windows & AIX
Unix. So the bug list was very helpful.

It's been over 3 years since the last upgrade & about 2 years since the
author last said v0.05 was coming out in response to a reported bug. And
his email address seems to no longer be active. So I guess it's safe to
say that no one is maintaining this module any more.

I have a complete Net-FTPSSL-0.05.tar.gz file ready to go once I know
what to do with it. This is a pure Perl module.

Curtis

The CPAN FAQ has some nice advice on this at: http://www.cpan.org/misc/cpan-faq.html#How_maintain_module

In a nutshell: if you're interested in taking over the module
entirely, you should talk to modules at perl dot org about it.
Googling KRAL's real name (available at http://search.cpan.org/~kral/)
brought up a LinkedIn and a Facebook page, so you could try to get in
touch with him through that, and see if he's willing to make you
maintainer. Either way, it's *awesome* that you're going to make some
code available for the rest of us to use, so THANK YOU :-).

cheers,
Gaurav

Well I was gonna suggest sticking the patch into the RT queue, but if
the module author really is AWOL then modules-at-perl.org is probably
your best bet. They're generally more helpful if you can show you've
made an honest effort to contact the module author.
