Are there any known problems with the OLE browser on windows 7 RC2.

I am running perl 5.10.0 on IE 8

I get an error "Initialize and script Active X controls not marked as
safe" similar to the one for windows XP.

Hi Ray,

No ActiveState products are supported on Windows 7 yet, so technically
there are no "known" issues.

Odds are, however, that you don't have IIS installed and correctly
configured. Almost all reports of OLE Browser issues turn out to be some
combination of no IIS and a misunderstanding of what OLE Browser
actually does.

Regards,

Graham Stuart

Re: OLE Browser and Windows 7

Just to elaborate a bit, The OLE Browser example shows an error message
at the bottom if the set up is not correct. The message indicates that
"Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe for
scripting" needs to be set to "Enable" in IE 7 with XP SP2.

This was not completely sufficient when later security patches were
added on top of SP2, and one work around was to install on a system with
a running instance of IIS (rather drastic).

Recent testing has shown that with IE 8 and XP SP3, the original
instructions are once again sufficient, although enabling possibly
unsafe ActiveX controls should still be considered with caution.
