disconnecting apache::Dbi in startup.pl

Hello,

I'm running into a problem where I connect to the db in startup.pl to
pre-load some global shared variables (the templates for my site).

I think want to disconnect, so that the children don't inherit my
connection - but apache::Dbi is overriding it! Is there any way to
force a disconnection? 30 children inheriting the same db handle is
obviously a problem...

I'm also confused about how the connect_on_init works - I can put it in
startup.pl, right? It gives me a warning when I'm starting the server
though.

Ciao,
