Mysql to handle more queries at the same time

Hi All,

I am using Mysql 3.2 version in the production scenerio.
Using a perl script to upload records in abundance. I can see that i takes a
lot of time to upload all the records as the server is not able to process
and insert all the inserts at the same time.

I am fireing select queries also before inserts.
I cant tweek the query_cache varicables in 4.0 version as I have 3.2 version
in the production.
