Aladdin Hardlock Discontinued

Aladdin Hardlock Discontinued

Hi,

I'd like to vent my frustrations with Aladdin and their under-handed
business techniques.

Aladdin is (was?) a successful security-dongle company, that has
created the reliable product Hardlock, and the somewhat unreliable
product Hasp or Hasp4 (these often cause problems on site with bad
drivers etc).

They are introducing a new product called Hasp-HL, and had previously
promised others that they would continue to support the older
Hardlock/HASP products.

The Hasp-HL is not backwards-compatible with the reliable Hardlock
product, and since its still very new, I am worried that it will have
the same quirks as the Hasp4 product line (of course, the quirks never
appear until you are out in the field where you can be embarrassed in
front of the customers).

However, they have notified their distributers that they will cease
support over the next 2 years, and they seem to have already ceased
software support for the Hardlock product last year!

Even worse, they have instructed their distributers not to tell their
customers until 6 months beyond the initial Hasp-HL release!

I emailed Aladdin re a problem with their product, and at first they
sounded very interested, etc. However after sending them further
information so they can fix the problem, I have heard nothing despite
numerous emails asking if they even got my email, how they were going,
etc.

So, I'd suggest interested parties to abandon Aladdin like they have
abandoned their customers, and move to a better solution such as WIBU.
There are plenty of other competing products out there, why stick
with the one that lies to your face?

Disgruntled Hardlock User.

Why anyone in their right mind would use dongles is completely beyond me.
To me it indicates a complete abdication of customer concern. That you are
having problems as a costomer with Aladin strikes me as just poetic
justice as you seem to have little concern with your own customers.

Its alright for some people who don't need to worry that casual piracy
would remove 90% of their income. When you have a small user base
that likes to share, dongles are perfect. We actually normally have
no problems with them at all, so once its installed the only
inconvenience to the customer is if they want to share with their
friends.

I suspect you've never even seen a dongle before, or have never been
in a situation where it would help. I'm not even sure if that really
is your real email address either, do they teach you to spell in UBC ?

Personally I'd like not have to deal with dongles etc, but until users
stop trying to avoid paying for the hard work that we put into the
software, I'll have to continue. Its not easy writing software you
know. I hope you are poor, so a little poetic justice heads back in
your direction since you obviously don't have much concern for the
people who write software and have to earn a living off it.
