If you are saying that you get this message when you try to start the
server, it sounds like you are running the client libarary and not the
server.

I don't know what you need to do to get mysql running on a windows system,
but I would assume that it is something as simple as changing into the
directory where you installed the mysql server binary and then run mysqld.

You might want to try asking this question on one of the mysql general
lists, as this list is more for problems/questions relating to
DBI & DBD:mysql.
